It is true - you do have homework! To achieve success homework is important. Unfortunately, there is not enough time in our day to learn all that we need and want to. Homework supplements the lessons learned and enhances student achievement, self-discipline, and teaches independence and responsibility.
There are three types of homework:
~ Routine Assignments
~ Special Assignments
~ Zebra Quests
Routine Assignments include 30 minutes of independent reading daily (see monthly reading calendar), assignments not completed in class, and learning extension assignments (those that further allow the student to practice what we are learning.
Special Assignments include book projects, science fair projects, completing assignments after an absence, and preparation for upcoming exams. Other special assignments maybe sent home throughout the year with your student.
Zebra Quests include extra items that take the student beyond the curriculum and enhance their learning in a variety of ways. You can find a variety of Zebra Quests throughout this site. Students who successfully complete 25 or more Zebra Quests will be inducted into our Hall of Fame!
On MONDAY each week, I will pass out homework and explain the directions for all the assignments to be completed during the week. Assignments are due back on Friday unless otherwise notated.
At the BEGINNING of each MONTH, your child will receive a monthly independent reading calendar. It is required that your child read a minimum of 30 minutes each day including weekends and holidays. The calendars will be due on the last Friday of the month.
Students will receive a star for each week they complete all of their assignments and reading. Every month, a special luncheon will be held for those students who have reached our goal. Names of invited students will be published on the luncheon page.
The goal is to have 100% completion!
If homework is not completed on time, a note will be sent home with the student and will require a parents signature. I apologize but excuses of "my dog ate my homework" will not be accepted.
